Major ii V7 I Jazz lick with a b9 Tom Harrell played

I heard Tom Harrell play this Jazz lick in the beginning of his trumpet solo on Scrapple From the Apple off his Moon Alley album. This lick doesn't necessarily have to be played over a ii V7 I, it can be played over a regular major chord as well. It's a very scale like Jazz lick so it's easy to play on trumpet.

How to memorize this Jazz lick in 12 keys:

Like I said before, since this Jazz lick is very scale like, it lays very nicely on the trumpet. You can either think of the lick as a G bebop scale lick with a raised 4th, or a C major lick with a b9 (or raised tonic). I prefer to think of it as a C major lick with a b9 in it.

If you prefer memorizing the lick in major think of starting on the 5th of whatever key you're in, then play the major scale up to the 4th, then go down to the b9, up to the 3rd, and finally finish the scale out landing on the 3rd of the I chord.

If you prefer memorizing the lick thinking in dominant then just know that you'll start on the tonic of whatever dominant scale you're starting on, go up the scale to the b7, down to the #4, up a minor 3rd from that, then just finish out the dominant scale down landing on a chord tone of the I chord.

Feel free to embellish on the lick and make it your own.

I never heard of this trumpet player until today, but Mat Jodrell sounds great at this jam session. Mat Jodrell takes a ride on the tune Four by Miles Davis. The tune Four is one of my favorite standard Jazz tunes. This jam session took place at Jazz de Medianoche at Vitoria Jazz Festival back in 2006.

Anyway, Mat Jodrell nails all the chord changes on Four and playing with a lot of energy on trumpet. I really enjoyed listening to this trumpet solo and I hope you do as well.

After taking a quick look at what High Profits has to offer, I came to the conclusion that High Profits looks like a decent legit affiliate program. As far as High Profit's affiliate network is concerned, they really don't have too many programs to choose from. I only counted 9 in my back office. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, it just means you're a little bit limited on what you can promote with High Profits. The main types of websites that High Profits allows you to promote are all money making websites.

In my opinion, the biggest drawback I've noticed with High Profits is that they don't offer any cost per action commissions. The only way you can earn is by making sales. I always enjoy CPA affiliate sites much more because it is a lot easier to make money off of actions versus sales. This is just my humble opinion though.

One of my favorite things I like about High Profits is that they offer a 2nd tier affiliate program. This means you can refer other free affiliates and make a percentage of their affiliate commissions for life. High Profits will actually give you a 5% commission off all the sales made by the webmasters you refer.

You have to earn at least $100.00 with High Profits before you can cash out. One other drawback I've noticed about High Profits is that they charge a fee of $5.00 to receive payment through Paypal. This was the cheapest fee too. To do a bank wire is like $20.00 or something like that.

Take a look at some more free affiliate sites that pay a sign up bonus and take advantage of as much free money as you possibly can.

I wanted to share this live Jazz trumpet solo of Sean Jones on the tune I'll Remember April. This performance took place at Gregory's Jazz Club back in 2008. I like the name of that Jazz Club because my name is Gregory as well. Anyway, this trumpet solo of Sean Jones is very good. Sean Jones nails all the chord changes on I'll Remember April. I heard Tom Harrell play this ii V7 I Jazz lick. I can't remember what album it was off of though. This ii V7 I Jazz lick starts off using a minor arpeggio starting on the 7th then finishes off with a b9 ending on the 3rd of the I chord.

How to memorize this ii V7 I Jazz lick in 12 keys:

First you need to note that this ii V7 I Jazz lick starts on the b7th of the ii chord and goes up and down the minor arpeggio. Once it hits the b7th again the lick goes up a Major 3rd, then you start thinking in Major for the rest of the Jazz lick except for the nice sounding b9th towards the end of the lick. Finally you'll end on the 3rd of the I chord. That's the easiest way I've found to memorizing this Jazz lick in 12 keys.

You can end this Jazz lick in different variations. I give some examples in the above video. Be creative and come up with some of your own interpretations of this Jazz lick.

Clifford Brown takes a great trumpet solo on the tune Confirmation. I really wanted to share this Jazz trumpet solo with you. Clifford Brown is known for using a hard tongue in his Jazz solos.  Clifford Brown also uses a lot of quick flips or turnarounds that he puts in pretty much everyone of his trumpet solos. Notice how Clifford Brown nails all the ii V7 I chords in Confirmation. This Clifford Brown trumpet solo is from his album entitled: The Complete Blue Note & Pacific Jazz Recordings. I believe Confirmation is on the last CD in this set. There are 4 CDs included with this purchase.
